OR Show Friday, Brighton 7AM "Wasatch Vs. the World Race"

The Wasatch Citizen SkiMo Series is firing up an informal training event this week during the OR show in SLC. The details:

We are having a bonus Friday morning race to accommodate the OR show folks who will be in town and restless. The start time will be 7AM at the base of the Milly lift. Park at the church and park tightly and organized to keep everyone happy. The format is yet to be determined by the amount of blessed snow we get this week. We plan to be finished by 8:30 so everyone can make it to their respective engagements...which might just be breakfast for those that don't have to hightail it to the show.

Sari Anderson and Brian Smith win The Heathen Challenge

The Heathen Challenge 2012 Racers enjoyed a sunny day of racing on a technical course with three boot packs and multiple transtions. 2012 USSMA Events

The US ski mountaineering racing season begins December 10th at CS Irwin Lodge in Colorado. A number of events have confirmed their 2012 dates and the USSMA calendar will continue to update event dates this Fall.

Two significant new events for 2012: The Teva Mt. Games presented by Eddie Bauer in Vail Colorado has North America's richest prize list of $5,000 and Crested Butte Mt. Resort in Colorado is hosting the ISMF North American Championships with a new, more technical course.

2012 COSMIC Schedule

The 2012 COSMIC schedule is here and includes ten events. More specific event details will be added throughout the Fall.

Of special note for 2012 is a new event at Vail: the Teva Winter Games presented by Eddie Bauer. Ski mountaineering and the COSMIC series is excited to be a part of this world-class celebration of sport. The Elite category prizelist of $5,000 makes this North America's richest skimo race. The Feb. 11th race includes courses for three different categories/distances; there's something for everyone.

San Juans Molas Pass Race Report

It's everyone's favorite course but the weather gods didn't co-operate and the event was stopped just over half distance due to low visibility and wet snow. Beer and burritos still tasted good and everyone was a winner at the raffle. We'll be back next year and a big thanks to the Silverton Avi School and Pine Needle Mountaineering for making it all go.
