In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Jackson race, we have designed a new and longer course this year! Course map will be released soon!

NEW COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The US Ski Mountaineering National Championship presented by Marmot will take place at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on March 20, 2010. This year is the 10th Anniversary of this event and promises to be exciting to competitors and spectators alike. A new course for both the pro and recreational classes will greet the competitors at the 8am start.

The pro course, dishing out more than 7500 vertical feet of skinning and bootpacking will be sure to test the fitness of every racer.

With an equal amount of descending, this course will demand leg strength to match lung capacity. The descents will feature some of Jackson's renowned North-facing steeps, Alta One and Tower Three Chutes. These runs have never seen a Pisten Bully, are littered with bumps and will hopefully be covered in Spring powder.

The bootpack up Corbet's Couloir returns with a vengeance this year, as the cornice is as large as ever. The short skin from the couloir to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain will have skiers ripping skins for a top to bottom run of 4000 feet. Just when you thought you could smell the burgers at Nick Wilson's Cafe, slap your skins back on for a 1200 foot climb of off-piste skinning.

Now it's time to head for the finish, awards and raffle, but don't relax just yet. Lower Tram Line is no cakewalk.

The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and the US Ski Mountaineering Association hope to see you in Jackson this March. Keep checking jacksonrandoneerace.blogspot.com and ussma.org for race updates and online registration. There is no race day registration. Questions may be sent to jaxrandorace@yahoo.com

Prizes and raffle are very strong for the event, free food and beer will be included in the post-race party/awards ceremony - we'll see you there.
